Engineering: Winter, Week 8
Usually we start our week in Engineering by discussing the idea of tower being something tall and stable, and puzzling out through conversation what those terms mean. From there, we play a game of Jenga - which we still managed to get to! - to illustrate those concepts in action, but this time we switched things up a little. We spent most of our first day recording the kids' heights with measuring tape and marking them on one of the wooden pillars in the room, so that we could all see our heights relative to one another. After that, to illustrate stability, we noted how easy it was to maintain our balance when crouched down on all fours, and how our own personal stability decreased as we stood up, balanced on one foot, and then balanced on their toes. It proved to be a pretty useful way of approaching those concepts!
